Another year, another fantastic day at the Tai Po District Dragon Boat Race cum Carnival. The weather had been terrible leading up to the Tuen Ng Festival, but prayers were answered with clear skies and warming sunshine as we joined the race!

For friends and family who have been following our story, our Dragon Boat team has evolved over recent years. We have grown to take part in indoor rowing, allowing students to train year-round, whatever the weather. While this naturally reduced our on-water training opportunities, the team worked incredibly hard nevertheless.

We took part in the annual school invitational race (standard boat 500m) alongside two local school teams. We had a shaky start, and one student even lost their paddle, tangled in the mooring ropes. The other two boats pulled ahead quickly, but we were able to hold pace and try to chase them down. Coming into the last 100 meters, we were only a boat’s length behind the others. Despite our best efforts, we finished in a close third place.

Though disappointed, we view our results realistically and know we need more practice. We are proud of our growth as a team and look forward to future training and race opportunities.

Congratulations to the team on their efforts, and a million thanks to all of the friends, family members, teachers, and alumni who came to support us at the race. We could hear your cheers amid the waves and splashes, and we truly felt your love and support!
