Tasty Thanksgiving Party!

We had our first English Speaking Day by celebrating Thanksgiving on Thursday 26th October. Students spent the whole week earning play money by speaking to teachers in English. Students worked hard to practise their English skills and so too did many non-English teachers. We finished with a big Thanksgiving Food Fair at lunch time. Hundreds of students exchanged their coins for turkey, roast potatoes and other thanksgiving foods and gifts. We had a fantastic time and hope you look forward to our next English Activity Day.

What an exciting English Easter time!

This Easter, we’ve had the wonderful opportunity to welcome friends from our partner school, Wycliffe Christian School. This year, two teachers and ten students came to Hong Kong to spend time with us, to learn more about our lifestyle, culture and traditions. We took part in a wide variety of activities: Yum Cha together, taking Australian friends on a local tour of Tai Po, learning Chinese calligraphy, the list goes on.

During their stay, we also held our school’s English Fun Days, hosting English Game stalls, speaking activities, a café, music dedications and much more. We had an unforgettable time together, making new friends whilst practising our English.

During the Easter break, we also went with our Australian guests for a tour of Southern China, in Guangzhou and Shenzhen. For 4 days and 3 nights, we explored the local hot spots, visited museums and experienced a lot of their local customs and culture.

Alas, all good things come to an end, and our new friends have returned safely to their homes in Australia. We pray and hope for a fruitful encounter in the summer as a team of our teachers and students will visit their school in Australia.

Wycliffe’s visit 2011

This April, LSC was filled with laughter and cheer. It is because seventeen Australian students, together with four teachers from Wycliffe Christian School came to our school for 6-day school visit.

During these six days, Wycliffe’s students did a number of class visits being introduced Hong Kong local culture and also joined us on our English Fun Day.

This cultural exchange program undoubtedly gives our students a better understanding of Australian custom and help enhances their proficiency in English.

Wycliffe visiting 2010

Eight students and five teaching staff, including the principal of Australia Wycliffe Christian School came to our school for a five-day school visit from 13th to 16th and 20th April, 2010. The visit provided our students with a golden opportunity to practise their English with foreign students and make friends with people from the other side of the world.

Wycliffe students had made several class visits during those four days and they were keen to share the Australian local culture with our students. In return, our students also did a wide range of presentations for them such as Chinese traditional culture, most famous local tourist spots and Hong Kong delicacies.

Students of our school did agree that the visit helped them a lot to enhance their English proficiency and furnished them with a more authentic English learning environment.

Visit from US Consulate

Mr. Damon Anderson, the Regional English Language Officer from US Consulate visited our school on 19th October, 2009. He greeted all of our students in the morning assembly and then delivered two talks about American Festivals for them. Students were fully engaged and asked questions actively. The visit ended with a mini-buffet lunch. S.6 student reporters joined and interviewed Mr. Anderson, hoping to know more about American culture. In short, it is a very fruitful and meaningful activity, in which our students elicited more opportunities to practise their English listening and speaking skills.

The English Activity Day 14th September 2009

What did our schoolmates do in Australia? Let’s take a look at the board and answer the easy questions. The most important is we can chat with our NET, Mr Brunton. By the way, we can get a little present as reward and consider shall we join the exchange tour this year!

Australia Exchange Tour 2009

Sixteen students and two teachers form our school joined an Australia Exchange program with China Holiness College during this summer holiday form 5th August to 15th August 2009.

Students had a golden opportunity to study in Wycliffe Christian School in Blue Mountain and explored the Australian local culture during the 10- day tour.

Besides the moment of fun and joy in school and local family, students also visited most of the landmarks in Sydney including Harbor Bridge, Opera House and Darling harbor. Both of the students and teachers agreed the tour to Australia did enhance their English proficiency and enrich their understanding of Western culture.

S2 Inter-class Group Presentation Competition

Students researched different tourist attractions in Hong Kong. They combined what they have learned during the lessons and the information they found on the Internet and different other sources to produce powerpoint slides. They gave verbal presentations with the powerpoint slides in class and on stage in the Inter-class Competition. The competition was held on 4th April, 2006. The US Consul, Mr Shawn Baxter, from the US Consulate General in Hong Kong was invited to be our honorable adjudicator and give them comments. Most of the students’ work and presentations are good. The task is an integration of students’ reading, writing, speaking, listening, cooperation and IT skills.
